Public
hearings Nov. 14 and 29; possible vote on Wednesday
One
Loudoun
The
Board of Supervisors will hold a public hearing on the developer
proposal for One
Loudoun/World Trade Center on Tuesday, November 14 at
6:30 PM at the County
Government Center.
One Loudoun
is a developer plan to build 1,500 new houses and some commercial
space in Ashburn on land currently zoned for commercial uses only.
The land is at the intersection of Loudoun County Parkway and Route
7 (see
map), a prime location currently zoned for jobs.
These new houses
would be in addition to the 17,000 new houses already approved but
not yet built in Ashburn. It makes no sense to convert land at this
prime location to residential—we need more jobs, not more
bedrooms.
Because the
land is already zoned for commercial uses, we do not need to accept
1,500 new houses to allow construction of new commercial space or
to get new retail and amenities. Adding 1,500 new houses on Route
7 will only add to our existing traffic problems in the Ashburn
and Sterling communities and the many schools we already need to
build.

Crosstrail
The
Board of Supervisors will hold a public hearing on a proposal called
Crosstrail on Tuesday, November 14 at 6:30 PM at
the County
Government Center. The Planning Commission recently voted to
recommend the Crosstrail project.
This
proposal would add 1,200 new houses next to the Leesburg Airport
(see
map) where the current plan calls for office development. The
proposal would change this land from office space to 1,200 houses
with regional retail, likely big box stores, and some office space.
Building houses
on this land hurts the future economic vitality of the Airport.
Proposed traffic offsets are woefully inadequate and spell gridlock
for the southeast quadrant of Leesburg with a negative impact on
all traffic in the Leesburg area.
The county
staff report is not yet available.

Rural Zoning Update
The
shameful delay on implementing the new rural
zoning continues -- and now, we're being asked to show up for
a THIRD round of public hearings.
It's time for
the Board of Supervisors to listen to the people -- comments received
by the county are 15 to 1 in favor of the Burton Plan.
Email
the Board of Supervisors and tell them what you think. Please
join us at the public hearing on Wednesday, November 29, as we protest
the continuing delay.
